Cardiac Rehabilitation is a key service of the cardiology department; heart patients undergo an individualized program of exercise, education and support. Cardiac Rehabilitation is a holistic program that focuses on restoring and maintaining wellness of cardiac patients.
Medical Exercise Program
Evaluation
A cardiac rehabilitation specialist conducts an initial evaluation for this St. James program. The evaluation includes a medical history review, blood pressure and heart rate assessment, developing an exercise prescription and defining program goals.
Orientation
The client is oriented to the various pieces of aerobic and strength training equipment.
Supervision
The program is supervised and updated by the St. James rehabilitation specialist. Clients will learn how to record and monitor their progress and develop the skills to exercise independently.
Progress
A progress report will periodically be sent to the client's physician. A change in a client's symptoms or medical status will also be reported to their physician.
Getting started
Clients will undergo an initial assessment to determine the level of exercise necessary for desired goals:
- Exercise with an exercise physiologist
- Personalized exercise prescription
- Develop realistic exercise goals
- Individualized instruction on equipment
- Learn how to monitor progress and exercise independently
- Group classes — buddy up
- Exercise with other members to make the time go faster
Program goals
- To maintain or improve optimal physical and emotional health of the participants
- To enhance the quality of life for individuals in Butte and surrounding communities
- To delay the onset or recurrence of symptoms through exercise and education.
