The laboratory provides locally-based, rapid response testing around the clock, from its state-of-the-art facility in Butte, MT. The laboratory is accredited by CAP, the Joint Commission, the State of Montana, and CMS (the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid). Through the extensive test menu offered, patients have access to the highest levels of clinical and anatomic laboratory service and expertise.

Laboratory Services (Specimen Collection) for Outpatients
Lab tests (specimen collection) for outpatients are performed in the Patient Services area located in the St. James Main Lobby, Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. On weekends, holidays and after hours, patients should go to the Emergency Department admission desk.
When a test is ordered STAT, the laboratory staff responds immediately, interrupting normal testing protocols to perform the STAT test(s). STAT orders are assumed to stem from a life-threatening situation.
Specific tests are designated with "critical values." When results for such tests qualify as "critical" values, Lab staff notify the patient's doctor or designated representative immediately.
Laboratory reports are delivered according to the needs of the patient. Reports can be delivered electronically to office printers or fax machines, by mail, and by courier delivery.
