St. James Healthcare has numerous volunteer opportunities. Our volunteers work throughout the hospital in a variety of capacities.
Where You Can Serve
The Gift Shop at St. James Healthcare is staffed entirely by volunteers, as is the Front Information Desk. Desk attendants assist clerks in admitting patients, and in getting patients and visitors where they need to go. The hospital also has volunteer opportunities in Human Resources, the Business Office, Medical Records, Medical Staff Office, Surgery, and the Emergency Department.
In addition, the hospital's Auxiliary delivers mail and newspapers (courtesy of Marquis Vintage Suites Assisted Living) to patients. The Auxiliary also makes blankets for patients in the hospital's Child Evaluation Center.
Annual Auxiliary Events
The Auxiliary has three luncheons during the year, and its annual fund-raising Fall Bazaar is in November. The Auxiliary also hosts several book fairs throughout the year at the hospital and a scrub fair each summer.
The group also awards four $1000 scholarships each year, and tends to the Book of Memories, which honors the deceased through memorial donations.
Auxiliary Officers
Auxiliary officers for 2004-2005 are Mary Shoemaker, president; Jean Tanner, first vice president; Diane Miller, second vice president; Sally Bridges, treasurer; Norma White, assistant treasurer; Chris Westlake, recording secretary, and Judy Evans, corresponding secretary.
Other members of the Auxiliary board are: Mary Lowney, Esther Moore Noreen Pettibone, Donna Nevin, Ann Slavensky, Pat Driscoll, Marie Lappin, Diane Sholey, Helen Maichel, JoAnn Piazolla, Bea Oswald, Catherine LeFever, Joan Dowdall, Lillian Tokle, Donna Jaeger, Doris Quinn, Rose Hussein, Mary DeGeorge. Ex-officio board members are St. James Healthcare Chief Administrative Officer James Kiser, and Dorothy Mandic, the Auxiliary's immediate past president.
