Working at St. James Healthcare

The word "professional" epitomizes the employees of St. James Healthcare. The array of employees and the professions they represent is impressive. St. James employs athletic trainers, certified oncology nurses, exercise physiologists, radiology technologists, physical therapists, spiritual care experts, registered nurses, speech pathologists and more.

All work within an organization driven by the mission of providing the best and most compassionate care within our power. Because we provide healthcare based on community need, we are out in the community working with other healthcare and social service agencies to pinpoint where the greatest healthcare needs are.

Community Advocacy Committee

The focus of St. James Healthcare's Community Advocacy Committee is children. The committee, a subcommittee of the hospital's board of directors, works with several agencies in Butte and Southwestern Montana to ensure the health and well being of children in the region. For example, the hospital has facilitated the teaching of the Talking About Touching curriculum to all children grades kindergarten through third in Butte. The curriculum teaches young children about safety, especially the meaning of safe touch.

Employee Volunteers

Many of our employees volunteer in the community. One of our employees has coached hundreds of children in softball and other sports. Another employee helps developmentally disabled children ride horses, which is therapy to the children. Several of our nurses are officers in Nurses Caring Across a Continent, an organization that raises funds to build clinics in Africa, where the AIDS pandemic is threatening the continent.

Mission-Driven

Mission is core at St. James Healthcare, a 100-bed hospital serving the counties of southwestern Montana. We are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

In addition to the extensive services St. James offers to help people get well and recover from sickness and injury, the hospital has become a facility without walls, reaching into the community with a schedule of health and wellness programs. Our Spice of Life program, a healthy living program for people 62 and over, has a membership of 1,500 — people who want to stay well and active for their entire lives.
