St. James Healthcare's laboratory staff is dedicated to excellence to ensure the highest quality results.   

The laboratory provides locally-based, rapid response testing around the clock, from its state-of-the-art facility in Butte, MT. The laboratory is accredited by CAP, the Joint Commission, the State of Montana, and CMS (the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid).  Through the extensive test menu offered, patients have access to the highest levels of clinical and anatomic laboratory service and expertise.

STAT Testing

When a test is ordered STAT, the laboratory staff responds immediately, interrupting normal testing protocols to perform the STAT test(s). STAT orders are assumed to stem from a life-threatening situation.

Critical Values

Specific tests are designated with "critical values." When results for such tests qualify as "critical" values, the appropriate physician or designated representative is phoned immediately.

Patient Reports

Laboratory reports are delivered according to the needs of the patient. Reports can be delivered electronically to office printers or fax machines, by mail, and by courier delivery.

Specimen Collection

Patients have access to specimen collection services at the Patient Service Center in the St. James Healthcare Main Lobby, Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. On weekends, holidays and after hours, patients should go to the Emergency Services admission desk.
